A Different Light

My horoscope from Rob Brezny: PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20): “The real secret of magic is that the world is made of words,” said the sage Terence McKenna, “and that if you know the words that the world is made of, you can make of it whatever you wish.” I’d go even further and say that you can actually shape your world through your use of language. Do you really want to live amidst infertile chaos where nothing makes sense and no one really loves anyone? Then speak with unconscious carelessness, expressing yourself lazily. Or would you prefer to live in a realm that’s rich with meaning and beauty and interesting mystery? Then be discerning and creative in how you speak, primed to name the novel truths that are always being born right in front of your eyes. Of course you always have the power to create heaven or hell through the words you choose, Pisces, but right now is a potential turning point when you could form good new habits.

What a perfect thing to say to a writer, Rob! Thank you for the insight and advice. I’ll keep it in mind.

There is something different about the light today. It’s deeper, more saturated —the first messenger of Autumn. My dreams have been strange and intense. Pieces of my psyche have begun to burrow into darker places in my subconscious. Pretty soon, school will begin and I’ll be caught up in theory, research, writing papers, learning French, opening new books, and spending hours upon hours in the shared sanctuary of the university library (one of my favorite places on campus). I look forward to getting out scarves, layering clothes, pulling travel mugs for hot drinks down from the top of the cupboard, and listening to the sound of the leaves crunch beneath my feet. But for now, I am home, enjoying this last quiet pause of Summer’s beauty.

I was finally able to get some sketching in after Superboy’s illness. But, I hesitate to share it here because I am positive I will make this one into a full fledged painting. It’s important that the piece has time to germinate before I put it out into the world. However, I can tell you that it is inspired by The Memoirs of Cleopatra by Margaret George. I already have a title for it: “Cleopatra at the Sacred Waters”. I’m excited to pull out my acrylics. It’s been far too long!

Have you noticed the light changing? Can you feel an intuitive shift in your consciousness this time of year? What words are you using to shape your world?

Dream Trauma

After we attended our friend’s beautiful hilltop wedding on Saturday, Superboy’s temperature shot up to 103.9, and has continued to be a roller coaster ever since. So, I’ve felt really worried and out of it the last couple days. Staying up all night, several nights in a row, taking care of a sick youngin’ will do that to a girl.  However, I did manage to get enough sleep to have the most intense nightmare of my life about my little boy dying in my arms while saying something about how he can see Santa Claus. Trust me, you don’t want to hear any more of the details. Neither Lover nor my mom wanted to hear them either, so I’m stuck with all these very real and frightening emotions that I don’t really know what to do with. Any ideas?

Model Sketch VII

Model Sketch VII, originally uploaded by Bodhi Girl.

Felt like adding in some color this time. I was getting kind of bored with just pencil so I used Caran d’Ache too. It’s probably the last time I will use those damn things in quite awhile. What a pain! The outline of this piece took me an hour, but adding in the color took me another two hours! Grrrr….. Oh well, it turned out nicely. I’m happy with it. I’ll most likely be using color in more of my sketches because it’s so much fun to play with.

I’ve got a wedding to attend today. How fun. I’ll probably cry. I usually cry at weddings. But, it’s going to be a party and I love parties! I’m stoked to see my friend all dolled up on her perfect day. It makes me anxious to start planning my own.

Hope you have a great day Duckies!
